MSU WR Alante Brown Hoping For Better Start to Season

Michigan State wide receiver Alante Brown suffered a concussion on the very first play of the Spartans' 2023 season.

Michigan State wide receiver Alante Brown's season took a devastating turn before it could even begin when he suffered a head injury against Central Michigan on the first play of the 2023 season.

Brown would miss the following game against Richmond but was fortunate to return to play the rest of the season.

As the 2024 season looms, the second-year Spartan can only hope for a better start this time around.

"Stuff happens in football," Brown told reporters following the Spartans' spring practice on Thursday. "God has a different plan for each and every one of us. So, I had expectations for myself, it didn't go the way it was supposed to, but I'm still here."

Despite the injury, Brown does not view the game any differently.

"Football is a dangerous sport," Brown said. "Thank God [that] God allowed me to get back up after that hit. So, that's what comes with the game; you never know what happens.

Brown's love for football is too overpowering for him to be discouraged by such a serious injury.

"The love of the game is what drives me," Brown said. "I wake up each and every day -- I'm from the South side of Chicago; we don't have much. And a lot of kids don't make it out of the South side of Chicago, so just the love of the game allows me to get up each and every day and just continue to enjoy and ball and feel free when I step on the field.

"So, I feel like that incident didn't really affect the love of the game for me."

Of his 11 games played last season, Brown made three starts -- Iowa, Ohio State and Penn State. He finished with 83 all-purpose yards, which included 27 yards on three receptions, four rushing yards and a 52-yard kick return. Brown also threw a 42-yard pass to Spartans wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr.

Brown began his college career at Nebraska, where he played three seasons before transferring to Michigan State. He played in 30 games for the Cornhuskers, including 10 starts in his final season with the program.

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spring Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
