Michigan State Offers 3-star Tight End From Ohio

Michigan State has extended an offer to 3-star tight end Brody Lennon.

Earlier this week, a 3-star tight end Brody Lennon from Gates Mills, Ohio, met with the Michigan State coaching staff and was offered a scholarship to play for the Spartans next season.

Michigan State's offer was the 19th Division I offer served to Lennon, so the battle to have him sign would be tough. Lennon is the 30th ranked tight end in the 2025 recruiting class and would be a big asset to Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith's offense for years.

Michigan State has been known to use its tight ends quite often in the passing game. Former Michigan State tight end Maliq Carr was second in receptions, second in receiving yards and tied for first in receiving touchdowns last season.

Per 247Sports, Michigan State ranks low on Lennon's list, but perhaps the volume at which Spartan tight ends get used throughout the years can sway Lennon's decision just enough for him to come to East Lansing.

The expectations for Michigan State and its new young quarterback are not high, and the passing game is not expected to be great. Lennon, alongside potential signee Jeff Exinor Jr., would undoubtedly increase the potential at which quarterback Aidan Chiles can play. The ceiling for Chiles gets exceedingly higher with the more freshmen the Spartans sign.

A new tight end added to the squad opens the playbook to new possibilities. Michigan State's team can perform well with a two-tight end set and firm, simple routes. Coach Smith had a very successful last two years at Oregon State, and with his quarterback and a few other transferring players, coaches can look to expand the playbook and create new possibilities.

In the upcoming season, Washington, Oregon, UCLA, and USC are all joining the Big Ten. Coach Smith coached in the PAC 12 for six years giving him plenty of experience coaching against these new teams which will be a big help.

Lennon told 247Sports' Spartan Tailgate he "was excited to receive an offer from Michigan State and liked what he saw and learned from the coaches while he was on campus."

Lennon posted the following on X:

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spartan Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
