MSU is a Finalist for High-Scoring Transfer Wing

Michigan State men's basketball is looking for a wing scorer in the transfer portal, and one option has the Spartans as one of his Top-4 finalists...

The first domino of Michigan State men's basketball's offseason fell Thursday when senior center Mady Sissoko entered his name into the transfer portal after four years in East Lansing.

Assuming point guard A.J. Hoggard moves on to professional basketball and the rest of the Spartans' roster returns, MSU has two open scholarship slots for 2024-25 season. It is widely assumed that Spartans coach Tom Izzo will look in the transfer portal for a small forward/wing and a big man to fill out his roster. With that in mind, one transfer option recently narrowed his list of options down to four schools, and MSU made the cut.

Rising senior Frankie Fidler, who averaged 20.1 points per game at the University of Omaha, is considering the Spartans alongside Nebraska, Creighton and Wisconsin, per Joe Tipton of On3. Fidler was a first-team All-Summit League selection and averaged 6.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game to go along with his high scoring average. The 6-foot-7, 205-pounder shot 45.2% from the floor, 35.6% from the 3-point line and 85.4% from the free-throw line.

Fidler is a player who has played a ton of basketball, having appeared in 94 games with 91 starts for the Mavericks, totaling 1,505 points, 499 rebounds, 223 assists, 102 steals and 37 blocked shots through the first three seasons of his college career. Take a look at Fidler's highlight tape in the video below:

Michigan State played a smaller starting lineup this past season, with Hoggard, Tyson Walker and Jaden Akins all part of the first five in 2023-24, but Izzo could go with a more traditional lineup next season if he can land a big-time wing out of the portal. Fidler's size and length make him an ideal option at small forward and could give a boost to the Spartans' offense alongside Akins in the starting lineup.

Fidler has already taken visits to Nebraska, Creighton and Wisconsin but will make his way to East Lansing next week for an official visit. It will be tough for the Spartans to beat out the Badgers, as Wisconsin point guard Chucky Hepburn is a close friend of Fidler's.

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spring Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
