Spartan Nation caught up with junior to be Medina, Ohio forward Kenny Kaminski (6’7”, 200#) while he was at a tournament in Las Vegas yesterday. We spoke at length with Kenny to learn a little more about his recruitment and his upcoming announcement on July 31st. Kenny made it clear that there will be no press conference. He and his coach, Jody Peters are going to just let it be known where Kenny has pledged his services. It is a two horse race between MSU and Indiana.

 

We spoke with Coach Peters as well about Kenny yesterday. “Kenny has a very high basketball IQ. I’ve been very, very impressed with how he sees the game. He sees the big picture.” Kenny’s game is solid. His shooting ability is what he describes as his best asset. Kenny told us that he needs to get better at attacking the rim. Too often defenders only respect him on the perimeter. When Kenny gets a bit more aggressive around the rim, it will open things up for him on the outside.

 

At 6’8” Kenny is currently being touted as a small forward at the collegiate level. His coach describes him as another coach on the floor. Coach Peters shared this with us as well. “We graduated some good guards this past season. Kenny is a guy that feels very, very comfortable with the ball in his hands. We may ask Kenny to run the point or bring the ball up for us.” 

 

We asked Kenny about his Michigan State recruitment experience. Like most young men that get a Tom Izzo offer, Kenny had great things to say about the MSU head coach. “I really like his coaching style. When he shows up to my games, that makes me want to work that much harder.”

 

Kenny has a great deal of support from his parents as well. His mom and dad rarely miss a game and Kenny credits them for the young man he has become. “My parents taught me to be the best man I can be. My parents have (always) been there for me. Both my parents are out here in Vegas right now.”

 

Kenny Kaminski may very well be the engine that drives MSU’s 2012 recruiting train. If Kaminski commits to Michigan State next week, I would expect other recruits to line up behind him. 

 

He is the type of player that other kids want to be around and would a wonderful edition to the “Izzo family” in East Lansing. We will let all of you know about Kenny’s decision as soon as he picks up the phone. Here is something amazing that Coach Peters told us, “I expect Kenny when he steps on campus to be 6’9” or 10” and 260 pounds.”
