Bulldogs Results

• Women's basketball: Alabama 87, Mississippi State 75

Mississippi State lost its fourth straight game, 87-75 inside Coleman Coliseum, sliding to 20-9 overall and 7-7 in the SEC with just two regular-season games remaining. Graduate student center Jessika Carter finished with her 13th double-double of the season: 18 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Debreasha Powe added 15 points behind five 3-pointers. For Alabama, Aaliyah Nye led all scorers with a career-high 28 points and tied the single-game program record with eight 3-pointers.

• Baseball: Mississippi State 10, Georgia Southern 2

• Men's tennis: Mississippi State 4, Tulane 3

The Bulldogs reeled off four-straight singles wins to secure a 4-3 victory at Tulane and improve to 8-3 on the season. No. 24 Mississippi State will head into SEC play riding a four-match winning streak.

Did You Notice?

  • The men's basketball team has the SEC's longest active winning streak (five).
  • The women's basketball team could be playing itself on to the bubble for the NCAA Tournament if it can't close out conference play with a pair of wins this week. Its NET ranking was No. 40 before the loss at Alabama, and Mississippi State has to play at Auburn, which is on the bubble, and Missouri this week before the SEC Tournament.
  • Coming off two weeks in California, the softball team return to Starkville for Mississippi State's final tuneup to SEC play. The Bulldog Invitational next weekend at Nusz Park will feature Southern Miss, Troy, Alcorn State and Samford for the four-day event.

Daily Dose of Mike Leach

“The basic idea here is that you have to make the defense cover the whole field. Not just part of it. If you do it right, it makes life very difficult for them.”
