Around The SEC: Greg McElroy Talks About South Carolina's Recruiting Success

Greg McElroy highlights the recruiting success of South Carolina under head coach Shane Beamer.

Former SEC quarterback and ESPN analyst Greg McElroy has been nothing but impressed with the recruiting success of South Carolina under head coach Shane Beamer.

On a recent episode of "Always College Football", McElroy singled out Beamer's progress at South Carolina and his success on the recruiting trail, having recently flipping the commitment of five-star edge rusher prospect Dylan Stewart.

“Shane Beamer is rolling right now,” McElroy said. “One of the biggest recruiting wins of his tenure came down on Tuesday when they brought in 5-star Dylan Stewart from the Washington D.C. area.”

On the episode, McElroy also took the time to explain how Beamer was able to put together his recruiting class, which currently has 15 commits in the class of 2024, sitting at No. 16 nationally according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

“For those that have kind of sat down and talked with Shane Beamer, there’s something real genuine about his approach,” McElroy said. “I think he’s very honest. I think he’s very transparent. He’s just himself, he feels very relatable. So it’s clear that he’s making an early impact on some of these recruits.

“He’s already done a decent job in the portal but expect more and more recruits to consider South Carolina in the future.”

Beamer, entering his third year as head coach of the Gamecocks, are coming off of an 8-5 season in 2022, which was their best record since 2017. The Gamecocks open their season on Sept. 2, when they play against North Carolina on neutral grounds in Charlotte.
