Dak Prescott Achieves Huge Milestone Among NFL Quarterbacks

Dak Prescott is set to be with the Cowboys for years to come.

Dak Prescott has been the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys for eight years and that doesn't look to be slowing down any time soon.

Aaron Rodgers held this title until recently when he ended his era playing for the Green Bay Packers to play for the New York Jets.

With Rodgers leaving the Packers after being the regular starting quarterback for 15 years, Dak Prescott now holds the title of longest-tenured starting quarterback.

Prescott became the starting quarterback for the Cowboys as a rookie, drafted in the 2016 NFL Draft during the fourth round. After the former starting quarterback Tony Romo was injured during the preseason, Prescott was left with a team to lead in his first NFL season.

Prescott's contract extension in 2021 gives him four years for $160 million, so he will be playing for at least two more years. Cowboys coach Jerry Jones intends to keep Prescott for many more seasons.

With this being the case, there is no chance for any other quarterback to take Prescott's title. Four other quarterbacks are tied for second with this title, however there's a possibility that this number could be cut to three if Lamar Jackson decides to leave the Baltimore Ravens.

Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Kirk Cousins are also in their sixth season as starting quarterbacks. Allen's contract keeps him until 2024 but can be extended until 2026, since Allen is ranked the number two quarterback in the NFL, his position is secure as long as he keeps from injury.

Mahomes, largely considered the number one quarterback in the NFL, currently is in his third year of his 10 year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs and should be expected to remain with the team for the entirety of his career.

This could potentially give Prescott a rivalry in his title depending on how many years each decide to play.

Cousins currently has a one-year extension with the Minnesota Vikings. This year the Vikings have the 24th pick in the NFL draft and since not many teams are looking for quarterbacks, Cousins could be in danger. In the Vikings' 62 seasons, they have only made the playoffs 31 times, so a change in their roster is risky but could be a possibility.

As for the rest of the NFL, teams like the Texans, Panthers, and Colts may be on the lookout for rookie starters. Eight out of 32 NFL teams are at year one with starting quarterbacks, so when the draft is over and rosters are set, then we will see who keeps their positions as starting quarterback.
