Dak Prescott Shares Thoughts on Cowboys' New Offensive Coaching

How the new offensive leadership will affect the former Mississippi State quarterback and the entire team.

After former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore announced his departure to coach for the Los Angeles Rams, the Cowboys were forced to find a replacement to prepare for the upcoming season.

In Moore's place, head coach Mike McCarthy brought in Brian Schottenheimer to be the new offensive coordinator.

However, although this position will give him room to lead the offense, McCarthy will remain the play-caller for the team, meaning that he will be the one working closely with Prescott.

The Athletic's Jon Machota recently detailed how Prescott described his experience working daily with McCarthy.

“As we broke (practice today), (McCarthy) said, ‘Go look at everything we put in and make sure we’re running the things you like and the things we’re good at. If it’s something you’re a little iffy about, let’s get it out. Let’s master what we’re great at.’ Just having that clear communication, being able to work with him day in and day out, it’s new, it’s refreshing, it’s fun for both of us.”

A switch-up in offensive coaching like this gives Prescott the ability to begin an early momentum that will hopefully snowball throughout the season, allowing the team to easily win more games.

Many of the players will benefit from the early-game chemistry that Prescott will look to get going, and one in particular is former Oklahoma State wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

This talented first-round pick stepped up to play well last season while Michael Gallup was recovering from a torn ACL.

He totaled 107 receptions for 1,359 yards and nine touchdowns and had a catch percentage of 68.6 percent, marking his all-time career high and finishing the season with the best stats of his career.

Lamb and Prescott have been an excellent example of solid quarterback and receiver chemistry, so with Prescott fine-tuning his abilities with McCarthy as play-caller, the duo is sure to show success on the field.
