Mississippi State Football: A Deeper Look into the WR Room for 2023

In this story:
In 2023, Mississippi State started to load up with targets for quarterback Will Rogers to throw to.
As of now, there are 12 receivers on the Bulldogs' roster. Some will get redshirted and wait another year for the chance to play, and others will return to help take the load off of the quarterback.
Lideatrick “Tulu” Griffin is one of those receivers looking to make a big impact in his potential final season with the Bulldogs.
In the latter part of the season, a comparison to Devin Hester was a good way to describe Griffin’s return ability. He has turned more into a returner than a receiver, but his electric speed and elusiveness make him one of the better options to look out for.
Another senior that will have a major impact is Jaden Walley. Viewed by most as the top target on the team, he looks to continue to have an upward trajectory in his play.
Walley's junior year was not the best when compared to his sophomore year due to the increase in receiver usage. He had 20 fewer receptions, almost 300 fewer yards and his touchdowns dropped from six to three. More eyes will be on him during this season, and expect him to show why they should be.
On the younger side, Zavion Thomas is another interesting receiver to look into. A lack of playing time in his freshman season caused him to enter into the transfer portal earlier this year, but he has decided to return.
The sophomore was impressive in the Mississippi State spring game, even catching a one-handed touchdown to show his growth. Thomas is one of the younger players that should have a bigger role this upcoming season.
The names mentioned above have the most upside for this season, outside of any injuries. There are still nine other receivers, so tricks and schemes with different players should be expected. Three of them are freshmen, so expect them to be redshirted. A few new transfers will be looking to make an instant and major impact on the program.
