How Can Mississippi State Beat Arkansas? Three Keys To The Game For The Bulldogs

In this story:
Mississippi State (3-3) looks to get its first SEC win of the season on the road against the Arkansas Razorbacks (2-4), who also look to accomplish the same in Fayetteville on Saturday.
A win in this game would give the Bulldogs some much-needed momentum, and a loss could drain what little life is left in this team. Both of these squads are fighting to salvage what has otherwise been a lost season.
Here's a loom into three keys for the Bulldogs to get a win.
1. Establish The Run Game
The Bulldogs will likely be without Rogers this weekend, and that means Mike Wright will get the start. Wright adds a new dynamic to the offense similar to former Bulldog great Nick Fitzgerald.
The MSU offense has had success on the ground this year. The unit rushed for 156 yards against Alabama, seemingly unheard of due to MSU's struggles against the Tide.
If the Bulldogs can establish a run, that will take much pressure off Wright. Wright will not pick apart the secondary with his arm, but he can make high-percentage throws.
2. Fast Start
This is often cliche when discussing keys to a win, but MSU cannot afford a slow start. A slow start would allow doubt to creep into players' minds, and if that happens, it will be a long day for the Bulldogs.
Whether the Bulldogs kick off or receive to start the game, the Bulldogs must have a good first drive. Arkansas has struggled this year with a record of 2-5. A fast start for the Bulldogs will test the Razorback's mental toughness.
3. Competence On Defense
It is no secret that the MSU defense has struggled significantly this season. However, the Razorbacks have not lit the world on fire with their offense, and this is a prime opportunity for the Bulldogs to figure some things out.
Head coach Zach Arnett is a defensive specialist and is aware of the struggles his unit has shown. Coming off an open date, one would have to expect changes would have been made and changes were necessary.
The Bulldogs do not need to dominate on defense to win this game, but they cannot play as badly as they have been. Forcing two turnovers would all but ensure a Bulldog win.
This game is huge for both programs, as both head coaches are beginning to feel the heat. Expect both teams to come out wanting to assert themselves early.
