Refusing To Wallow: Mississippi State QB Will Rogers Takes Accountability In 41-14 Loss To LSU, Looks Forward To Moving Ahead In 2023 Season

In this story:
After the 41-14 loss against LSU, the Mississippi State Bulldogs had a lot to take away from accepting a difficult defeat.
A lot of the mistakes fell on the starting quarterback, Will Rogers.
During the press conference following the loss, Rogers discussed where they went wrong and what they can do to progress before the next game.
"Obviously kind of a rough start and I did not by any means start off the best game as well," Rogers said. "So it's kind of kind of back to the drawing board for us, we got to stick together and get better and it doesn't get any easier from here so we can't dwell on this too long. We gotta begin next week on the road."
Rogers has held his starting position for over three years, so knowing his team and performing to a high standard that reflects that is demanded of him on a significant level.
While he did blame some of the loss on himself, wallowing in defeat is not in his nature. And he suggests that the team gets back up on its feet and continues working hard heading into South Carolina.
One of the things he brings up is how they called their plays. Incomplete passes, sacks, and loss of yards filled the statistics.
Rogers explained how they can improve to avoid these mistakes.
"I mean, just just an option routes and things like that," Rogers said. "I'm trying to anticipate throws and maybe I have to throw it a little quicker because the rush is on me but that's the beauty of the sport and the beauty of the connection of receivers and quarterbacks. You gotta be on the same page and we obviously weren't early on."
The ability for Rogers to take a step back right after the game and see where the offense went wrong, where he went wrong, and how they could change that shows his dedication and self-awareness.
"I mean, I feel like just really getting into a rhythm," Rogers said. "Once we once we got first down or two, you guys saw on some of those drives, we were really starting to pick up some momentum.”
While it's a tough one that surely left a bad taste in the Bulldogs' mouths, it's time to move forward.
"I hope to wake up in the morning and go to church, go in the office, start getting ready for South Carolina, same thing I did last week. Keep it very simple and get ready to play in the next game."
