Observations From Mississippi State Football Camp: June 15, 2023

Mississippi State welcomed plenty of young football standouts to its camp on June 15.
The Palmeiro Center was once again where the linemen did their work, and there were some top and future prospects in attendance. One of the standout attendees was Caleb Moore, a defensive lineman from Oak Grove High School.
Moore is listed as 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, and he has a composite four-star ranking. During individual drills with Bulldogs defensive line coach David Turner, Moore showed off his explosive and violent hands while showing excellent flexibility for his size.
When one-on-one drills began, the two players who got the most reps appeared to be Moore and Bryson Hurst. Hurst is a formal Ole Miss commit and is entering his second year at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Hurst showed a quick first step but often overstepped, which left the inside wide open. Moore took full advantage of this by beating Hurst inside to win the rep.
After instruction from MSU offensive line coach Will Friend, Hurst did not overstep, but Moore still was quick enough to beat him to the edge. When Hurst lined up at guard, he looked much more comfortable with his power, size and quickness. He could fit better as a guard at the next level.
Moore is a priority for Mississippi State, but he still needs to find his true home on the defensive line. He is currently a little undersized for the three-technique but lacks the speed to play a true defensive end.
Moore plans to participate in camps at Southern Miss and LSU later this week. He holds offers from Alabama, LSU, MSU, Ole Miss and others.
One 2025 prospect is offensive lineman Mario Nash Jr. from Kemper County. The 6-foot-4, 272-pound rising high school junior has offers from Florida A&M, Florida State and Mississippi Valley State.
Nash has impressive footwork and does not lack strength despite his slim frame. He will likely need to put on some weight, but he has great footwork and a frame to carry the extra weight needed. Nash will likely pick up a Mississippi State offer soon.
Another 2025 prospect who caught my eye was Korbin Ashmore, a 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive lineman from Wesson, MS. Ashmore was well-built and showed a quick first step.
Mississippi State will host another group of campers on Saturday.

Jacob Bain first joined Cowbell Corner as an intern, and was promoted to lead day-to-day coverage in Starkville of Mississippi State sports in 2023. His primary beats include football, baseball and basketball. He's originally from Fulton, Miss.
