On a cold and rainy day at Taylor Stadium, the Tigers followed suit with a slow game.

Despite some late game traffic in the ninth, Missouri was able to get the win in their mid-week game against Lindenwood 5-4. The Tigers continued their undefeated streak against the Lions, holding a 5-0 all-time record.

Missouri wasn’t able to get their first run on the board till the fourth inning, and even needed some help with that. Back-to-back singles from Trevor Austin and Jackson Lovich gave Missouri two runners but a passed ball and an error allowed Austin to score. But after that, the Tigers needed no help. They put up three more runs on their own in the bottom of the fourth.

They weren’t able to get another run in until the bottom of the eighth despite multiple baserunners in earlier innings. The Tigers ended up needing that run in later innings to secure the win.

Despite the home run in the second inning to put Lindenwood up early, Daniel Wissler put up a good start for the Tigers. He went five innings and held the Lions to just three hits and the one run from the homer. Wissler put up a career-high five strikeouts in his appearance to keep the Tigers ahead.

Josh McDevitt’s outing did not go as well and was limited to one inning. He started off with a double and a hit-by-pitch and followed it up with a single and a sacrifice-bunt to score two Lions and bring the score within one run. Missouri then went back to the bullpen for Charlie Miller, hoping for a better outing from him than his last. He gave them just that, striking out the side in the sixth and earning a new career high in strikeouts with four.

To close the game, Jacob Peaden made his second appearance in the last two games. He earned some traffic with a walk and two singles to load the bases. A fielder’s choice and a failed double play attempt brought the Lions within one run in the top of the ninth. Fortunately, Peaden was able to put up a strikeout and leave two on at the end of the game.

Matt Garcia made his return to the lineup after a hand injury that kept him out. Despite not facing live pitching since two weeks before the season started, Garcia has quite the comeback. At the plate he earned a hit-by-pitch, a single past the first baseman for his first hit of the season and another single into the outfield.

The Tigers record improves to 6-6 this season and Lindenwood’s drops to 5-7. Missouri returns to the field on Friday, March 8 at 3 p.m. CT to start their series against Purdue – Fort Wayne.
