Report: Former Missouri Standout Drew Lock Signing with Giants

Former Missouri standout quarterback Drew Lock starts a new chapter with the New York Giants.

Former Missouri standout quarterback Drew Lock is signing with the New York Giants per NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the former Seahawk's contract is a one-year deal worth up to $5 million.

This transaction stems from former Giants backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor signing with the New York Jets on Monday's opening day of the legal tampering period.

Lock started in nearly every game of his freshman and sophomore years at Missouri, but he truly broke out in his final two. In 2017, he was named to the All-SEC First Team after leading the entire FBS in touchdowns (44). In 2018, he earned All-SEC Second Team honors.

Lock, 27, spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Denver Broncos, who selected him with the 42nd overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. He earned the starting role late into his rookie season and his four wins in the final five games gave him the QB1 spot once again going into his sophomore campaign.

However, Lock struggled by posting a 4-9 record and throwing the league's most interceptions (15). He was declared the backup for his third season and later became a free agent.

Lock signed a 1-year, $4 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks last offseason knowing he'd be the No. 2 option behind Geno Smith. But when Smith was unavailable to play against the 10-1 Philadelphia Eagles this past season, Lock was ready when his number was called. He led Seattle to a 20-17 upset win and completed 22-of-33 pass attempts for 208 yards, including a 29-yard game-winning touchdown to rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba with 28 seconds remaining.

Now in New York, Lock be the backup option for starter Daniel Jones, who missed a lot of this past season due to injury but was also subpar when healthy. Depending on how Jones plays come September, Lock has shown that he'll be ready when his number is called.
