How to Watch No. 1 Nebraska Volleyball vs. South Dakota State with Preview, Breakdown, TV Channel

What happens in Vegas usually stays in Vegas, but it was difficult to achieve that kind of secrecy for the No. 1 Nebraska Volleyball team.

Competing in the first-ever Players Era Volleyball Showcase at T-Mobile Arena, the top-ranked Huskers put on a show for the combined 17,000-plus that attended the two-day event. NU started with a blowout of UNLV on Friday night, dominating the hometown Rebels in front of NFL legend and Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady.

While he wasn't there on the following day for NU's rivarly showdown against No. 2 Texas, he surely would've enjoyed the beatdown the Huskers put on the Longhorns — reminding himself of the many times he did so in his storied career. Star middle blocker Andi Jackson has seemingly improved her skillset after an AVCA All-America First Team campaign, jump serving her way to three aces on the weekend alongside 14 kills on a .583 clip in two matches.

Now, ahead of what will be another signature moment for this senior class when they play Missouri at Wrigley Field on Sunday, Nebraska takes a quick detour to the homeland of senior setter Bergen Reilly, where they'll face Jackrabbits of South Dakota State.

Maggie Meister | L/DS | Transfer | The Sioux Falls native racked up 227 digs and 2.18 per set during her freshman season with SDSU, but she took her talents and transferred to Northern State over the offseason.

Outlook

From bottom half to routine league contender, South Dakota State head coach Dan Georgalas has certainly made his case to move up the coaching ladder. Following a 2019 season that saw the Jackrabbits finish 6-22 and second-to-last in the Summit League, Georgalas was hired away from Wyoming and immediately led a turnaround. Jump forward to 2026 and SDSU enters the new season favored to win their third-straight Summit League crown and another berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Despite consecutive first round exits in the last two years, the Jackrabbits are loaded again. It all starts with senior outside hitter Sylvie Zgonc — who will go down as one of the best players in program history. The Wisconsin native became just the fourth player in Summit League history to repeat as Player of the Year while earning her second-straight AVCA All-America Honorable Mention accolade. Plus, she became a three-time member of the All-Summit League First Team by pacing SDSU with 451 kills and 4.34 per set while being second on the team with 2.61 digs per set.

Teammate and opposite/middle blocker Madison Burr is also prime for an enormous junior campaign, but offseason injury recovery has delayed her start to 2026. Georgalas rolled with a 5-1 offensive system in 2025 while relying on Rylee Martin for setting duties (10.25 assists per set), but he's gone with a 6-2 this season, which has seen Martin's numbers plummet (5.46 assists per set) and Council Bluffs native Brooke Larsen see extended playing time as a sophomore. Veteran Joslyn Richardson returns for her third-straight season of starting at libero and currently leads the Jackrabbits with 31 total digs in three matches.

The team was hurt with the graduation of middle blocker Sydni Schetnan. The 6-foot-5 veteran ranked inside the top 30 nationally with 144 total blocks and 1.38 per set, but sophomore Claire Logeais has developed enough over the offseason to garner her starting team reps. She's hitting .417 early on with 11 kills and a team-high 10 blocks. True freshman Hannah Mlsna has stepped up in the absence of Burr by collecting eight kills (fourth on team) and eight blocks (third) while making starts in two of the team's three matches.

With four starters back, there's a lot to like about Georgalas' seventh squad in Brookings. However, the unexpected absence of Burr makes this team far less dangerous and limits their overall ceiling — especially when you talk about competing in the NCAA Tournament. Regardless, Nebraska should dominate and give NU setter Bergen Reilly plenty of opportunities to show off to her hometown crowd.
