Any given team, friend group, or even family is bound to have a designated “hype man”—the person who gets you to feel confident and amped up to the point where you feel as though you could do anything, and tackle any obstacle. For the Northwestern football team, that prized individual is none other than strength and conditioning coach, Alex Spanos.

Even if you are not particularly familiar with Spanos, there is a considerable chance that any Wildcat fan may have witnessed his antics. The trainer has gone viral on several different social media platforms, including the ESPN and SportsCenter Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Spanos first became an internet sensation back in 2017 when reporter Larra Overton spotted him on the sidelines in quite the form-fitting polo shirt. However, videos of Spanos remain viral to this day, thanks to his spirited enthusiasm for his athletes during lifts, iconic sideline dance moves, and his ability to don a purple polo with cutoff sleeves in any weather, no matter how extreme.

If you weren’t already excited for the upcoming Wildcat football season, you can check out the slideshow posted on SportsCenter’s Instagram earlier today of videos showcasing Spanos’ infectious energy here.

ESPN celebrated the three-year anniversary of its discovery of Spanos on Nov. 10, 2021.
