Notre Dame Lands Penn State Transfer Center Kebba Njie
Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry continues to overhaul the Irish roster and now he's added a big man as the Fighting Irish landed a commitment from Penn State transfer center Kebba Njie.
Njie was a true freshman during the 2022-23 season, starting 26 games and playing in 37 for Shrewsberry as part of a Penn State team that made the NCAA Tournament. Njie scored 3.4 points per game and averaged 3.5 rebounds per game.
Njie scored a season high 12 points in an early season win over Loyola (Md.). He posted a season high of 9 rebounds in a 77-73 Big Ten Tournament victory over Indiana. His season best of 4 blocked shots came in a win over Quinnipiac. He shot 52% from the floor on the season.
The 6-10 center was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 100 overall player in the country in the 2022 class. Originally from Centerville, Ohio, Njie played his final high school season at La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere School. His older brother plays basketball at SMU and his father, Baboucarr, played college basketball at IPFW and Cincinnati State.
Njie is the second transfer to choose Notre Dame as he joins Northwestern guard Julian Roper II. Shrewsberry has also landed three new high school recruits in the 2023 class to go with Markus Burton, the lone holder from the Mike Brey class. Burton was Indiana's Mr. Basketball this past season. Shrewsberry also landed Top 100 forward Carey Booth, guard Logan Imes and guard Braeden Shrewsberry, who is the son of the Irish head coach. Booth, Imes and Shrewsberry were all previously signed with Penn State.
Landing the 6-10 Njie as a transfer and the 6-10 Booth gives Notre Dame a much-needed boost in size. Both are post players, which is a huge need, although Booth can also stretch out a bit and knock down jumpers.
Notre Dame also has a commitment from Cole Certa in the 2024 class.
