Commitment Preview: Offensive Tackle Matty Augustine Ready To Announce
The 2025 offensive line class has been filling up quickly for Notre Dame. They are hoping to get another big commitment on Tuesday when Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School standout Matty Augustine is set to make his commitment. He will be choosing between finalists Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin.
The 6-7, 290-pound offensive tackle has been courted by some of the best schools in all of college football, which is now winding down. Augustine is set to make his commitment at 10:30 AM eastern time. The Irish staff hope to continue their momentum up front in 2025.
Here is the latest with each school heading into the decision.
NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH
Since Augustine camped at Notre Dame last offseason, he has been a player that the staff is very high on. They offered Augustine after his performance and their interest hasn’t halted since. In total, Augustine has been to South Bend four separate times, including most recently for Junior Day several weekends ago. He also has a tremendous relationship with both Will Black and Owen Strebig, who have been pushing for him big time down the stretch.
MICHIGAN WOLVERINES
Heading into the decision, Michigan is probably the team who presents the biggest challenge to Notre Dame. They have done a tremendous job recruiting him, and he has developed a great relationship with Sherrone Moore. With Coach Moore being promoted to head coach, it certainly doesn’t hurt their chances.
OHIO STATE BUCKEYES
The Buckeyes ended up offering Augustine a little over a week after the Irish. Augustine has been to Columbus twice, including also seeing the Buckeyes in person in their battle against Notre Dame in South Bend. Ohio State has been a major recruiting power in the Midwest for a long time, and should never be counted out for a recruit. They have, however, has their struggles recruiting offensive lineman recently.
PENN STATE NITTANY LIONS
Of the schools that made the finalists for Augustine, Penn State was among his earliest offers. He has visited the campus twice in the past, and has been complimentary of Nittany Lion offensive line coach Phil Trautwein. Penn State has been one of those schools that have been steady in the recruitment. While they aren’t considered a front runner, they have certainly done a solid job with Augustine.
WISCONSIN BADGERS
The Badgers actually offered Augustine on the same day as Penn State, really leading to him blowing up on the recruiting trail. Wisconsin has a long history of developing great offensive lineman, which is appealing for Augustine. He has been to campus only once before, although Augustine has been very complimentary of the program throughout the process.
