One of the more underrated pickups in the 2025 recruiting class so far for Notre Dame is Elmhurst (Ill.) Immaculate Conception defender Dominik Hulak, who committed to the Irish back in November. Now two months after the decision, the Illinois star looks back on his commitment and is set for his return to South Bend.

"Thinking back to my commitment, I’m very happy with my decision,” Hulak told Irish Breakdown. "It definitely was the right decision.”

Hulak will be back to Notre Dame this weekend for Junior Day. It will be his first trip back to campus since making his commitment official. Since then, everything with the Irish staff and other commits have been going very well. Seeing the crew again is going to be a tremendous moment.

"I am definitely most excited to just see everyone because it’s definitely been a while,” Hulak explained. "I’m looking forward to sit down with the coaches and just talking about all the other plans they have for me.

"Everything has been going great with the other Notre Dame commits and coaches,” he continued. "The coaches are always in contact with me and have stopped by at school multiple times already. Our relationships have definitely been developing, even though the last time I saw them was when I was down in South Bend for Wake Forest and within then and now we have had a lot more guys commit. So Saturday is going to be a day for everyone to develop relationships with those that are new.”

Obviously building those relationships is the top priority this weekend. Getting to continue to help the momentum for the 2025 recruiting class, however, is another big part of the trip. Hulak has seen himself step up into that role of important recruiter for the Irish.

"My role as a recruiter for the uncommitted players who are considering Notre Dame has been somewhat important,” he said. "I’ve definitely messaged some guys that I knew were about to decide. I took it as how Deuce (Knight) texted me one day and to say that he is very good at what he does with texting other guys, and so I just try to play my role in helping him and everyone else out and especially Chad (Bowden) and the rest of the recruiting staff.”

Hulak had been garnering interest from several prominent Midwestern programs prior to selecting Notre Dame. Some of his notable offers include the Fighting Irish, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Purdue, Illinois, Louisville and Iowa State among others.

The 6-3, 225-pound athlete was a key performer for the 13-1 Class 3A state championship squad as a sophomore. In total, Immaculate Conception outscored its opponents by a margin of 617 to 151 en route to winning the team’s last 12 games of the season. The Knights also ended with another impressive 9-3 overall record in 2023.

The Illinois native does the bulk of his damage on the defensive side of the football. Over the last two seasons, Hulak collected 93 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and four sacks. He also had two fumble recoveries, seven pass breakups and two blocked kicks.

On offense, Hulak also has a role as a tight end. In the last two seasons, he hauled in 18 receptions for 345 yards and two touchdowns through the air. That is an average of 19.2 yards per receptions. Hulak also ran the ball once for a 12 yard gain.

Since committing to the Irish, Hulak has seen his recruiting rankings rise a bit. The Illinois native is now ranked as a four-star by Rivals, currently sitting as the No. 15 linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class.
