On Wednesday, the Notre Dame coaching staff stopped in to see 2024 cornerback commit Karson Hobbs. The Ohio native is less than a week from officially signing with the Irish. This in-home visit with the coaches is really the last step toward signing on the dotting line, and it is a surreal moment for Hobbs.

"It’s crazy to think about,” Hobbs told Irish Breakdown. "Dreaming about this as a kid and all of sudden having the entire Notre Dame defensive coaching staff at your house, being able to play ping pong and play pool with them like regular people, it’s just a blessing. It’s just something I take day by day and think about how much closer I’m getting to everyone over there, and to officially become a part of the team.”

It was also a great moment for Hobbs’ parents, who have been a tremendous support throughout the process. This visit was also incredible for them, like a big family.

"It’s been the whole goal through it all just to make my parents proud, as well as being able to achieve my own goals,” Hobbs explained. "At the end of the day, I have two people at home that love me and want to see me succeed.

"It was much more normal,” he continued. "They have gotten to talk to them but it’s a different vibe than being on the field. Being able to see the coaches are normal people outside of the football perspective was great. My mom was super excited and cleaned the whole house up. My dad went and got three footballs to get signed. They both loved it.”

Overall, the visit was a tremendous experience. The group enjoyed a great dinner, which was catered by their local country club. After enjoying some ribs, chicken, and mac and cheese, they were also able to get a little competitive.

The biggest highlight of the visit may have been them being able to play both pool and ping pong. Regardless, it was just a great chance to continue to grow their relationships.

"It was fun,” he said. "I see them a lot so it’s already like home, so we’re ready to compete. Just playing ping pong or pool, it’s just like a normal day because I love being around them. This will be the first of many times that they will be visiting me or we will be hanging out.”

But of course, Hobbs was focused on the competitive part. While pool may not have gone his way, he apparently made up for it with the ping pong paddle in his hand.

"(Chris) O’Leary is insane (at pool),” said Hobbs. "(Mike) Mickens is really good. (Marcus) Freeman is okay and I’m trash. At ping pong, I am him. O’Leary is good. Mickens is okay and Freeman is just Freeman, he’s mid.”

Hobbs and his family leave the visit with a continued growth of comfort in the commitment. This time next week, he will be Irish and he couldn’t be more excited about it.
