Adding length and athleticism continues to be a priority for the Notre Dame staff, and that's just one of the reasons the staff is already making a run at Norfolk (Va.) Maury standout athlete Kendall Daniels Jr. The 2025 athlete is one of the top players on the board for the Irish staff, who view him as a safety.

Now in a dead period, this has allowed some 2025 recruits to take a breath and assess the state of their recruitments so far. That is certainly true for Daniels, who has been navigating the landscape the best he can but will take full advantage of the down time.

"It was a little overwhelming for a while but now things are starting to slow down," Daniels told Irish Breakdown. "I’ve gotten the chance to really collect my thoughts and dig into some of the schools who have been recruiting me so far.

"I don’t think I will be taking any more visits this year,” he added. "I’m preparing for the upcoming season and that’s really where my focus is.”

Daniels has been developing good relationships with the Irish staff so far. It is two coaches in particular that have been really selling the vision for the program thus far.

“My relationship with Coach Caleb (Davis) and (Chris) O’Leary has been good so far,” Daniels explained. "They have both been great and have been super consistent. They love my length and athleticism. I have the ability to make plays all over the field in their scheme.

"I only talk to the two coaches so far but they have been standing out very well,” he added. "I like them so far and they stand out very well. The school and people seem great. I’m excited to try and get up there for a game visit this season.”

Getting Daniels on campus is a priority for the staff. There is clear intrigue here but making the trip may change that to full interest. Daniels is the type of high caliber athlete that Notre Dame needs more of on the back end, and Daniels fits that bill perfectly.

Daniels is considered a four-star recruit by 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals. The latter has him rated the highest, sitting as the No. 165 overall player and No. 15 safety in the 2025 recruiting class. Daniels is also listed as the No. 3 player from the state of Virginia in the class.

There have been a flurry of impressive offers that have been extended to Daniels. Some of his notable offers so far include Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Miami, Penn State, Auburn, South Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Maryland, West Virginia, Boston College and Duke among many others.

The 6-3, 185-pound safety was an absolute difference maker for the 10-2 Maury squad. Their defense was able to hold opponents to 127 points on the season, an average of 10.6 points per contest. That included three shutouts on the season.
