Notre Dame Is Getting A "Great Player, Better Person" In Loghan Thomas

In this story:
Notre Dame continued its budding pipeline in the state of Texas by landing Katy (Texas) Paetow edge rusher Loghan Thomas. Landing talented edge rushers is vital to Notre Dame's success, and getting impact talent out of Texas is incredibly important.
Landing the right kind of player is even more important, especially for Notre Dame, and that is what makes Thomas so crucial.
Paetow assistant coach Johnnie Mack gave Irish Breakdown insight into the football player, and the quality young man, that Notre Dame is getting in Loghan Thomas.
Despite being such a heavily recruited and talented player, Thomas had to wait his turn. Since leaving that shadow, he exploded onto the national scene. That isn’t something that is totally a surprise for the people around him everyday.
"It has been a humbling experience for Loghan,” Mack explained. "He was really in the shadows until pretty recently. Our team was loaded last year, so many four and five star recruits everywhere. We had guys like David Hicks and Daymion Sanford, who are both going to Texas A&M.
"There was no question that Loghan was going to be the next guy up,” Mack continued. “We always knew that he had a bright future. As soon as the 2023 class finished up, things got rolling quickly. It happened so fast.”
That attention, however, has not changed Thomas’s approach. His work ethic, humble nature and desire is what has set him apart the most.
"He just has so much upside as a player,” Mack stated. "Loghan has been handling it all really well. He has a good foundation to build off of, including a mother who has done a wonderful job raising him. Despite that attention, he’s always remained a team first guy. He goes to workouts, does it the right way. He wants to leave a legacy at Paetow.”
When asked about just how talented Thomas is, Mack gushed.
"Let’s start with track and field,” explained the Paetow assistant coach. “Loghan came out this year, and we all thought he was going to throw the shot put. That was the assumption, he would be a field guy.
"He comes on the first day and says that he is going to be a sprinter,” Mack continued. "We were all like, 'Yeah okay, we’ll see.' We were doing some testing and he was absolutely blowing the other guys out of the water. All of a sudden he’s the second leg on our 4x100 relay at his size. He’s even running the open 100 meter, running 11 flats.”
That God-given athleticism is enough to get any coach or evaluator excited. Once again, it is the work ethic that really separates him.
"That's a testament to how athletic he is, but he’s also very strong,” noted Mack. “He had a great offseason in the weight room as well. Loghan is one of those guy who doesn’t have any body fat. He is a freak of nature and the crazy part is that he is still pretty raw.
"If Logan was at a place that needed him to play safety, he could do it,” Mack continued. "He can run with you, do anything you need on the field. He can run with running backs out of the backfield.”
A player that is from Texas could have a tough transition to a place like Notre Dame, but Thomas isn't your typical young student-athlete. He sees the bigger picture, and having family in Ohio doesn't hurt either.
"Location never mattered to Loghan,” he said. "A lot of guys want to stay close to home, stay where things are familiar. For him, it was always about finding the best fit. Wherever that was going to get a great player and an even better person.”
Despite offers from big time programs like Georgia, Oklahoma and USC, that place ultimately became Notre Dame.
