Notre Dame Is Trending Well With Ohio Receiver Shaun Terry

In this story:
A few weeks ago, 2025 Ironton (Ohio) High School wide receiver Shaun Terry visited Notre Dame for the first time for junior day. The talented athlete left that trip with an offer from the Irish, adding to his long list of impressive offers that seems to be growing every day.
Terry’s recruitment has been blowing up, now being courted by several big time programs. According to Ironton assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Jerrod Pendleton, Terry is doing his best to handle the chaos that recruiting can bring. He has done an excellent job remaining focused throughout.
"He’s doing really well with the process,” Coach Pendleton told Irish Breakdown. "Shaun is a very humble and mature kid. He comes from a family of athletes and a lot have played major college football, so he has some additional guidance from them. He’s a very driven kid and is just excited for every opportunity that is in front of him.”
While Terry is still a name that Notre Dame fans are just starting to get to know, wide receivers coach Mike Brown has known it for awhile. In fact, several of the coaches already have a connection to Ironton and have made a great early impression, both at the school and on that recent visit.
“Shaun has had a great relationship with Mike Brown even before he was at Notre Dame, when he was still at Wisconsin,” Pendleton explained. “They were one of his first offers. We have had a relationship with Coach Brown from when he was at Cincinnati under Coach (Luke) Fickell. It’s the same with Marcus Freeman, Max Bullough and some of the other Notre Dame coaches that have Ohio ties.
"He had a great visit to South Bend as well,” he continued. "Shaun really likes the prestige of Notre Dame. He likes the academic piece, the overall history of the university and program. They really do bring a lot to the table that Shaun gravitates toward.”
It seems like a new school comes calling every single day. Terry is enjoying the process but is beginning to focus on several schools. It’s a long list of impressive programs that continue to push hard.
"Things seem to change almost everyday,” said Pendleton. "There are more schools who are probably going to offer and get into the fold. Right now, I would say that Michigan, Clemson, Missouri, Oregon, West Virginia, Penn State and Michigan State are a few schools that are pushing hard right now.
"I will say this, Shaun is very high on Notre Dame,” he added.
There is a rough timeline for Terry to try and make a decision before the start of his senior year, although nothing is solidified. Notre Dame appears to have made a great impression and could build momentum moving forward quickly with the Ohio standout.
While Terry is rated as just a three-star recruit by all of On3, 247Sports and Rivals, his expanding offer list tells a much different story. The 5-9, 170-pound pass catcher has been hearing from some of the top schools in the Midwest and others around college football, receiving offers from the Irish, Michigan, Penn State, USC, Oregon, Clemson, Auburn, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Missouri, West Virginia, Iowa, Boston College and Illinois among others.
That added attention comes off of a stellar junior campaign for Terry. The Ohio star was an all purpose threat for the 11-2 Fighting Tiger squad. In those 14 games, Terry led the team with 525 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 27 receptions, averaging an impressive 19.4 yards per reception. He also ran the football 28 times for another 391 yards and five touchdowns.
Terry was also an impressive performer on defense for Ironton, totaling 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three interceptions and six pass breakups. For good measure, he also averaged 31.7 yards per punt return and took another five back for scores. Terry was truly a threat to make a big play in every capacity in 2023.
