Local Star McHale Blade Recaps Notre Dame Visit

Fast rising 2026 defensive lineman McHale Blade goes in depth on recent trip to Notre Dame

Notre Dame opened up spring practice this past Thursday, giving fans a glimpse into what they can expect from the 2024 team. Several recruits made the trip to campus for the day as well, including 2026 Country Club Hills (Ill.) Hillcrest defensive end McHale Blade.

The Irish staff has been doing a lot of homework on Blade, who has seen his recruitment begin to blow up recently. He had the chance to see the practice, and really visualize him with the program potentially.

“The visit went really well,” McHale told Irish Breakdown. “The practice was amazing. It was very high energy and everyone was competing.

“I got the chance to really watch the defensive lineman and how they interacted with Al Washington and the other coaches,” he continued. “The group was playing fast and had great energy. It was exciting to be around.”

While Notre Dame has not extended an offer quite yet, that could very well change in the near future. With the Pot of Gold offer event less than a week away, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Blade offered on St. Patrick’s Day.

If he does, this visit was a great start to the relationship between the talented defender and the staff. It is only going to strengthen from here.

“During the visit, I had the chance to sit down with the coaches and just talk,” Blade said. “It wasn’t just about football. It was just getting to know each other. It was great getting to see them face to face.

“I’m excited to get to know the staff a lot more moving forward,” Blade added. “They’re a great program and give you the best of both worlds. I’m grateful to get recruited by them.”

Blade has seen his interest increase a ton recently. The Illinois native is now sporting an impressive and growing offer list. Some of his top offers currently include Florida, Miami, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Cincinnati and Indiana.

The 6-5, 230-pound pass rusher is coming off of a promising sophomore season for Hillcrest. Despite being limited to seven games, Blade was able to record 22 total tackles, five tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Blade also had another six quarterback hurries.
