Notre Dame Offensive Line Commits Have Meshed Quickly

Notre Dame offensive line commits Will Black and Owen Strebig talk about their relationships with new commit Matty Augustine

Notre Dame received another commitment on Tuesday when 2025 Greenwich (Conn.) Brunswick School offensive lineman Matty Augustine pledged to the Irish. The 6-7, 290-pound blocker is the 17th player to commit to the Irish in 2025, including the third offensive lineman.

He joins Wallingford (Conn.) Choate Rosemary School standout Will Black, as star offensive lineman from the state of Connecticut to commit to Notre Dame. Even before the commitment was made by Augustine, the two had already been forging a strong bond. They come from similar backgrounds, and have a lot in common.

"Matty and I have a good relationship,” Black told Irish Breakdown. "We first met at Notre Dame’s camp where we both balled out and got offered there together. After that we camped at Michigan and Alabama together.

"We both play in the same prep school league in Connecticut as well,” Black added. "I’ve talked to Matty several times leading up to his commitment. I can’t wait to ball with him at the next level and get developed by the best offensive line coach.”

Black was the first offensive lineman to commit in the class. The second was Waukesha (Wis.) Catholic Memorial star Owen Strebig, who made his decision known publicly back on February 8th. The highest rated of the three, Strebig currently sits as the No. 66 overall player and No. 6 offensive tackle in the 2025 recruiting class according to Rivals.

In a previous interview with Irish Breakdown, Strebig talked about their efforts in getting Augustine to be a part of the class. Strebig had also been developing a strong relationship with Augustine, who he had met on various trips back to South Bend.

The two have seen that bond increase, and get stronger and stronger leading up to the commitment. Strebig is excited to grow together.

"I'm excited to have Matty on board with us,” Strebig explained. "He is another great addition, both as a player and as a person. Our offensive mine is pretty set and it looks pretty dang good. I'm excited to get to work with my future teammates.”

Offensive lines are all built off of togetherness and cohesion. The three-man group for the Irish is already off to a strong start. Augustine is a welcome addition to the class, giving Notre Dame three talented offensive lineman that are each at least 6-7 and 285 pounds. Their developmental upside is immense, quite literally.
