Notre Dame Offers California Defender Samu Moala
Notre Dame held their annual Pot of Gold offer event on Sunday. During the event, the Irish staff extended over 100 offers to some of the top overall players in the 2026 recruiting class. That includes Carson (Calif.) Leuzinger defender Samu Moala, who is being pursued as a versatile linebacker by the Irish.
Moala is very well regarded early on from a recruiting ranking perspective. He is considered a consensus four-star recruit by every major recruiting platform that has ranked him thus far. 247Sports currently has him ranked the highest, sitting as the No. 52 overall player and No. 3 EDGE in the 2026 recruiting class. Rivals sees him similarly, currently pegged as the No. 71 overall player in the class.
The 6-4, 225-pound defender has been courted by some of the top programs in all of college football. Some of the notable offers for Moala include Notre Dame, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Oregon, Nebraska, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Michigan State, Arizona and Oregon State among others.
Leuzinger asked Moala to wear a lot of hats for their team. In nine games, Moala recorded 49 total tackles and four tackles for loss. He also had six quarterback hurries, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.
Moala also had two receptions for 40 yards, as well as another carry for ten yards. He is expected to be a focal point of the offense as a junior.
