Notre Dame Offers North Carolina Safety Malcolm Ziglar

Notre Dame has expanded its 2024 defensive back board by offering Fuquay-Varina (N.C.) High School speedster Malcolm Ziglar. The 6-2, 185-pound defensive back has been in conversations with Notre Dame for some time, but tonight things took a big step forward.

Notre Dame has been talking to Ziglar throughout the spring, and safeties coach Chris O'Leary went out to see the athletic defensive back during the current open recruiting period. By offering Ziglar a scholarship it is clear that Notre Dame is trying to take this relationship to the next level in hopes of getting Ziglar on campus for a visit this summer.

Ziglar has very intriguing film. He's clearly a very long athlete, possessing good length and height. Ziglar has big time speed, and he claims to have run a 4.38. You can see his speed when he has the ball in his hands, and he ran a 10.76 in the 100-meter dash this spring. He shows easy change of direction skills and he's a willing hitter. He doesn't play with much technique at this point, but that can be quickly corrected. What Ziglar shows is impressive athleticism and a lot of tools to work with.

Ziglar plays some at corner and safety in high school, but most of the snaps I evaluated were at cornerback. Most schools are recruiting him at safety, and that's the position that Notre Dame offered him to play.

The Fuquay-Varina standout has a very strange rankings profile. Rivals, ESPN and 247Sports all rank him as a middle of the road three-star prospect, but On3 not only has him ranked as a four-star prospect, he's also ranked by the outlet as the nation's No. 78 overall player, No. 6 safety and the No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina.

Ziglar has now earned offers from the Irish, Penn State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisville, Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, West Virginia, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt.
