Notre Dame Pushing For Dynamic Cornerback Elbert Hill

Elite 2026 cornerback Elbert Hill updates his recruitment and relationship with Notre Dame

The cornerback position at Notre Dame has taken on new heights since Mike Mickens came to South Bend. Development has been at an extraordinary level, as well as recruiting, which needed a major boost.

Mickens has attracted some top level talent, something that some didn’t think was possible at Notre Dame. The staff has already put themselves in a good early position with 2026 Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban cornerback Elbert Hill, who is one of the top defensive players in the class.

"Recruiting has been going great for me recently,” Hill told Irish Breakdown. "All the schools have been trending well with me so far. I’m excited to continue growing those relationships.

"I’ve been talking with Notre Dame a lot,” continued Hill. "The relationships with them are amazing. Coach Mickens is mainly who I have been in contact with. That relationship is amazing. He’s a great coach who really knows what he’s doing.”

Hill has already spoken very highly of the Irish, a school that he could definitely see himself at. The Ohio native is beginning to formulate his travel schedule for the offseason. There is nothing cemented but South Bend is a place that Hill wants to get back to.

"I don’t have any school visits planned yet,” Hill said. "Notre Dame is definitely a place I would like to see again. It is a beautiful place with a lot of history.”

The 5-10, 170-pound defensive back is already well thought of from a recruiting rankings perspective. On3 and Rivals are the two major recruiting platforms that have ranked Hill so far, both pegging him as a four-star recruit. On the On3 Industry ranking, Hill currently sits as the No. 53 overall player and No. 5 cornerback in the 2026 recruiting class. Hill also sits as the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Ohio.

Several big time programs have already extended offers to Hill. Some of his notable offers so far include the Irish, Michigan, Ohio State, USC, Miami, Penn State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Missouri, Wisconsin, Colorado, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Purdue and Indiana among others.

As a sophomore, Hill put together a tremendous season for Archbishop Hoban. On defense, he hauled in seven interceptions and broke up another 10 passes. Hill returned two of those interceptions for scores, scoring nine touchdowns overall.
