Notre Dame Recruiting Roundup - January 15th

In this story:
With the offseason fully underway, there obviously isn’t any college football to currently fixate on. There is, however, a ton of recruiting news to keep everyone busy. Notre Dame is putting together a Junior Day for later this month, as well as having several big time recruits throughout the month of January desperately.
There have also been a couple big commitments in 2025 recently for the Irish. Under Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame as a whole has taken their recruiting game to a whole other level. The program has even had an exciting offseason so far in terms of transfer portal additions.
Here is the latest in Notre Dame recruiting this past week. There is a lot to get caught up on.
LATEST RECRUITING NEWS
Over the last week and a half, Notre Dame has received two massive commitments in the 2025 recruiting class. The most recent is Wallingford (Conn.) Brunswick School safety Ethan Long, who chose the Irish over finalists Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin last Monday. Long was a player that the Irish have been valuing tremendously for some time now.
Two weekends ago, Notre Dame also landed a massive commitment from 2025 Chicago (Ill.) Simeon defensive end Christopher Burgess. The 6-4, 240-pound defensive lineman brings some of the best physical gifts of any defensive end in the 2025 recruiting class. He truly has a rare upside at the position if developed properly.
In an interview with Irish Breakdown, Burgess went in depth on his decision to select the Irish. It should be no surprise that the Chicago native has already set some big goals for his time in South Bend. Burgess expects to win a lot of football games and be developed into a high level NFL Draft prospect.
The latter was extremely important for Burgess. He understands how talented he is, and getting proper development is big. Burgess fully believes that Coach Freeman and Al Washington can get the most out of him.
On Friday, Notre Dame welcomed another important 2025 visitor with Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou linebacker Josiah “Ko’o” Kia, who is the younger brother of 2022 Irish signee Kahanu Kia. This is a very important visit for Kia, who is experiencing South Bend for the first time as a recruit.
On January 20th, the Irish staff is set to host their next Junior Day. They are expecting a long list of talented 2025 recruits on campus for the event. Some of the top early names included elite quarterback commit Deuce Knight, Irish legacy pass catcher Jerome Bettis Jr., key offensive tackle target Owen Strebig, elite in-state pass rusher Damien Shankin, and star cornerbacks Dallas Golden and Devin Williams.

RECRUITING EXTRAS
Irish Breakdown had a chance to conduct a couple different interviews this past week, including a two partner on the most recent Notre Dame Recruiting Hour. One of those interviews was with 2025 Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley linebacker Marco Jones. The 6-4, 215-pound defender talked about some of his athletic accomplishments during that interview. He is arguably one of the rarest athletes in the 2025 class overall.
Jones also went in depth on his recruitment and relationship with Notre Dame. The Irish staff have done a tremendous job to move the needle with Jones early, and really put themselves in a tremendous position to compete for him until the end.
South Carolina graduate transfer placekicker Mitch Jeter also joined the show. He talked a lot about his experience in the transfer portal, why he chose Notre Dame and some of his early goals for his final year.
