Maryland punts after three plays, thanks largely to a second-down sack from Davon Hamilton. So, Chase Young sitting out while OSU examines an NCAA eligibility issue, but the sack-happy defensive line continues its destructive ways.

Well, that didn't take long.

Six plays and Ohio State is in the end zone on Justin Fields pass to Binjamin Victor. It's 7-0 before we hit the 12-minute mark of the first quarter.

Another three-and-out for Maryland. It's a slow three-and-out, as it's letting the play clock tick down to hopefully shorten the game. But unless they call this one off after 15 minutes, it's going to get ugly.

Justin Fields showed why OSU is so tough to defend on that second TD drove. He scrambled for a first down to get it started and he took a broken play and scored his 10th TD of the year on a 4-yard run.

So, for the ninth time in 10 games, Fields has a rushing TD and a passing TD, and we're not out of the first quarter yet.

Oh, pooch kick from Blake Haubeil to Chris Olave gives OSU possession after the score. That was sorta Bama-like vs. Clemson in the first of their three Playoff meetings. Ingenious bit of coaching and execution there, so Penn State, Michigan and everyone else who has designs on beating Ohio State can spend time repping against that.

And Ryan Day's alter ego liked it.

OSU is 4-for-4 on third downs. Entered today's game first in the nation at .573 conversion rate.

Two of those came on this third possession, which ends with Fields' 4-yard touchdown pass to K.J. Hill. That cashes the on-side kick recovery into a TD and a 21-0 lead.

Terrapins' punter going to have a tired leg. He boots it away for the third time. Maryland has one first down. Ohio State has 10, and now hunting a few more as the first quarter ends.

Buckeyes have 192 yards after 15 minutes. Maryland has 1 yard.

This is sorta like taking candy from a baby, except the baby would put up a better fight.

OSU marches to its fourth straight TD and converts again on third down. Fields has all day, and takes only a few hours to find Olave as alone as the dude in Castaway. That's a third TD pass for Fields and a 28-0 margin for OSU.

Here's an idea...why not send Drue Chrisman out to reserve a table for the team at a nice restaurant so it can watch LSU vs. Alabama. It's not like OSU is going to need its punter today.

J.K. Dobbins proves as much with a 7-yard TD run and it's 35-0 Buckeyes with 4:58 left in the half.

Maryland goes for it on fourth-and-9 at the #OSU 41. Surprising. No, not that Terps went for it...surprising they got into Ohio State territory. Pass is incomplete and Buckeyes take over.

Dobbins scores his second TD, this one from 20 yards out, and it's 42-0 OSU.

If you think this is a blowout, remember, it's all relative.

Next week at this time against Rutgers, this score will look close by comparison.

Wow, so Gus Johnson just heavily implied that Ohio State believes Maryland turned in Chase Young on the matter that's resulted in his inability to play.

Ohio State took a timeout with 38 seconds remaining after scoring its sixth touchdown in as many possessions  to lead, 42-0.

OSU coach Ryan Day called timeouts after Maryland's first- and second-down plays, which sparked this conversation between the Fox announcers:

Klatt: "Ryan Day pouring it on a little bit here."

Johnson: "It's personal."

Klatt: Yeah, this is interesting, partner, with what's going on this week."

Johnson: "Remember, Chase Young is from that Washington D.C. area. (He) said he borrowed money from a family friend. Who would know about that."

Klatt laughed and added, "This seems interesting. 42-0, take the timeouts..."

Ohio State nearly blocked the ensuing Maryland punt after a third-down incompletion, but then took a knee to end the half.

The Buckeyes' six-touchdown lead raises their first-half edge over nine opponents to, 283-31. Do the math and that works out to an average margin of 28 points. Only one team has been closer than 17 at the break.

And, it's not getting any closer.

OSU intercepts on the first play of the second half and, with the starters out, Chris Chugunov hits Garrett Wilson for a 14-yard TD and a 49-0 lead.

Haubeil adds a 31-yard field goal after the Buckeyes fail on third down for just the third time in 11 tries. It's 52-0 with a lot of time -- way too much time for Maryland's tastes -- remaining.
