Ohio State Favored For 2024 5-Star DL Eddrick Houston?

The Ohio State Buckeyes currently have one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, and it could be getting even better soon

Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver commit Jeremiah Smith said he and quarterback pledge Air Noland are trying to build the best 2024 class in the country.

Among the position groups Smith said they were looking at building was defensive lineman, and five-star Eddrick Houston — whose hometown of Buford, GA. is about an hour and a half northeast of Noland's — could be one of the ones the quarterback-wide receiver duo reeled in.

Houston was crystal-balled to Ohio State by 247Sports director of football recruiting Steve Wiltfong Sunday, while On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine have the Buckeyes at a 74.6 percent chance of landing the Buford High School product.

Houston was offered by the Buckeyes Jan. 20, as his official visit to Columbus is scheduled for Friday. He has taken official visits to USC May 19, Clemson June 2 and Georgia last Friday and will take one to Alabama June 23.

“I watched practice and really saw how coach Larry Johnson works with his players,” Houston told On3’s Chad Simmons on May 17 about his last visit to the Buckeyes. “He would coach J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer, but still make time to come over and explain things to me. That really stood out to me. He and coach Ryan Day make me feel like a priority for them. They have shown a lot of interest in me, they produce a lot of top defensive linemen and Ohio State showed me a lot on this visit."

He logged 64 tackles, 11 for loss and 10 sacks in his 2022 campaign on the gridiron, while also wrestling and running track and field. Ahead of his senior year of high school, he has propelled to a top-20 player in the class of 2024 and a top-five defensive lineman.

If he commits to Ohio State, Houston would the Buckeyes' fourth defensive pledge in the cycle, their second-best recruit in the class behind Smith and their seventh-best defensive lineman prospect in program history, trailing J.T. Tuimoloau, Jack Sawyer, Noah Spence, Nick Bosa, Chase Young and Zach Harrison.
