WATCH: Lou Holtz Takes Shots At Ohio State, Ryan Day

Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Lou Holtz took shots at the Ohio State Buckeyes' physicality.

Lou Holtz was a guest at the Ohio State Buckeyes' spring game in 2017, donning the scarlet and gray with pride, but he has made it clear where his true allegiance lies.

With the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Holtz won a national championship in 1988. If they want to win their first title since then, they'll have to beat the No. 6 Ohio State Saturday, and Holtz thinks they will do so.

"Forget who in the hell we're playing," Holtz said on "The Pat McAfee Show" Friday. "You take this message to Ohio State. You tell them they better bring their lunch because it's going to be a full damn day's work."

Holtz said Notre Dame "is a better football team than Ohio State."

“We have the best offensive line in the country, Sam Hartman won’t even get his jersey dirty all year. He has time to throw the football," Holtz said. "The offensive line, we have great running backs. Estime is averaging about 10 yards a carry. We have great receivers. So offensively, we’re set. Defensively, our defensive line’s better."

One of Holtz's stops prior to his head coaching career was in Columbus in 1968 where he served as an assistant under Woody Hayes during the Buckeyes' fifth national championship victory in program history.

However, during Holtz's rant, he took a shot at Ohio State head coach Ryan Day.

"You look at coach Day," Holtz said. "He has lost to Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and Michigan twice and everybody beats him because they’re more physical than Ohio State."

Of the criticisms of Notre Dame so far, one of the biggest ones center around its No. 90 strength of schedule, playing Navy, Tennessee State, North Carolina State and Central Michigan, but Holtz had a rebuttal against that argument.

"Every day, we get to practice against good," Holtz said. "We get to practice covering on good receivers and it won't be much different than covering the great receiver they have at Ohio State. Plus, we're playing at home. It'll be a close game, and we will win because we believe."
