Corey Dennis Gives Injury Update For Ohio State Buckeyes QB Devin Brown

Brown missed the 2023 Spring Game with a finger injury, but the Buckeyes quarterback coach says the sophomore signal-caller is "getting back to it."

Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback coach Corey Dennis said sophomore signal-caller Devin Brown is on track to return for the opening weekend of the 2023 season.

Brown missed the 2023 Buckeyes Spring Game due to a finger injury, but Dennis says the Gilbert, Arizona native is recovering well.

"He's doing good," Dennis said. "He's healthy. He's getting back. Getting back to it."

Brown is one of the two Ohio State quarterbacks currently competing for the starting job, along with junior Kyle McCord. Unlike his younger competitor, McCord was featured in the annual Spring Game and has a majority of their combined, in-game reps.

Dennis said both Brown and McCord are working hard to earn the first-string spot, even with the former's dealing with an injury.

"They're grinding every single day," Dennis said. "They both want to be great. And so we're excited to see what they do the rest of the summer even more."

As of this moment, the position of Ohio State's starting quarterback is still unfilled.

There is no clear timetable for when head coach Ryan Day will make his choice between Brown, McCord or maybe even someone else (though that last option is extremely unlikely at this point).

Dennis is more than comfortable letting the starting role go unfilled for the time being, saying both that whoever receives the job will perform at a high level and that there wouldn't be a decision made until the Buckeyes begin Autumn camp.

"I know everybody wants to talk about the quarterback battle or competition, but we're still in the process of worrying about yourself and getting better," Dennis said."And I think that when you worry about yourself and you maximize who you can become, then the other stuff kind of takes care of itself."
