Buckeyes 'Favorite' for 2024 No. 1 OT Brandon Baker?

In a recent interview, top 2024 offensive tackle Brandon Baker named Ohio State as his "favorite" school from his visits in June.

Mid-way through July, the Ohio State Buckeyes' 2024 recruiting class is looking strong, despite the recent misses. The Buckeyes sit at No. 2 on the 247Sports team rankings, trailing only Georgia, who owns the top spot with a whooping 26 commits compared to Ohio States' 18.

While the Buckeyes have missed on recent targets like four-stars, cornerback Zabian Brown and wide receiver Josiah Trader, Ohio State is still in the mix to improve over the coming months, as multiple top targets remain on the board.

One of those big targets is five-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker. The Saint Ana, California, native by way of high school football powerhouse Mater Dei is closing in on his official college decision after a busy June. Like recruits across the country, Baker spent the month taking his official visits, one of them being to Columbus to see the Buckeyes.

Following his busy month, which saw him visit Ohio State, Texas, and Georgia, Baker recently updated the status of his recruitment in an interview with 247Sports.

“I liked all the visits, but Ohio State was my favorite one," Baker told 247Sports. "I just really like the coaches there, Coach Day, and I'm very close with coach Justin Frye. He might be the OL coach I'm closest with, and I really like the plan they have in place for me."

It is certainly music to the ears of Buckeye fans as Baker is as touted of a prospect as they come this cycle. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Baker is not only a five-star but also ranks as the top tackle in the class and is the third-best player from California, which makes him No. 24 nationally.

No decision date is currently set for Baker, yet his recent comments have made the Buckeye faithful feel good about where Ohio State stands in his recruitment. If Baker decides to pledge himself to the Buckeyes verbally, he will become just the third offensive lineman to join the class.
