Urban Meyer Names Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. as Heisman Favorite

Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer has predicated wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., will win the Heisman Trophy.

Could the Ohio State Buckeyes have the next Heisman winner on the roster heading into the 2023 season?

Ex-Buckeyes head coach turned analyst for Fox Sports Urban Meyer believes that wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. could be the next Ohio State player to win the most prestigious individual award in college football.

In a recent edition of the "Urban's Take" podcast hosted by Tim May, the ex-Ohio State coach named Harrison his favorite to win the award that USC quarterback Caleb Williams last won.

“I think he’s the best player in college football even last year,” Meyer said of Harrison. “I don’t think it’s going to be close this year. Now, it’s can we get him the ball? Can he stay healthy and still prep the way he is? I think he’s a unique individual. I think he will be the No. 1 draft pick.”

Harrison is already garnering a ton of attention as the talk turns from the 2023 NFL Draft to next year's, with some labeling him the best receiver prospect since Calvin Johnson. Harrison led the Buckeyes in receiving a year ago, recording 77 receptions for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns. But that was with C.J. Stroud under center, the eventual No. 2 pick of this past April's NFL Draft.

Harrison will undoubtedly be a major part of the Buckeyes' offense this coming fall, but the questions at quarterback could affect his production. Yet, Meyer took his proclamation a step further, saying he believes that the junior wide-out could position himself as the best to do it.

“It’s still hard to say that [Cris Carter is] not the greatest receiver of all time,” Meyer said. “I’ll tell you what. Marvin Harrison Jr. is knocking on the door. I think at the end of the year, he’ll be right with Cris Carter as the best to ever play in the Scarlet and Gray.”

Winning the Heisman would certainly make up for Harrison being passed over by the Biletnikoff Award a season ago. In addition, by winning that prestigious award, he would make history, becoming a part of a group of four other receivers to have won the Heisman trophy. The last receiver to win the Heisman was Alabama's DeVonta Smith in 2020.
