Oklahoma DB Billy Bowman to Return for Senior Season

The Sooners' defense received big news on Friday night, learning that one of their star players will return for another year in Norman.

On Friday night, Oklahoma junior defensive back Billy Bowman announced on social media that he will return to OU for his senior season.

In three years with the Sooners, Bowman has notched 142 tackles, 11 pass breakups, nine interceptions, seven tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.

As a junior in 2023, the Denton Ryan (TX) alum tallied six interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns. One of Bowman's biggest plays of the year was a miraculous 100-yard pick six against BYU that helped OU take down the Cougars for the first time in program history.

Bowman's three pick sixes and 238 interception-return yards are the most in the nation by an FBS player in 2023.

The star defensive back's return is a huge victory for the Sooners' defense as the team transitions into the SEC. With Bowman now officially coming back to Norman, Brent Venables and company await an official decision from All-American linebacker Danny Stutsman, who SoonerScoop.com reported will enter the NFL Draft.

Stutsman has yet to make an announcement of his own.

At Thursday morning's Alamo Bowl coaches press conference, Venables was asked about the star linebacker's decision.

“Everything has its time,” Venables said. “And whenever Danny’s prepared to let everybody know what his future is gonna look like, out of respect for him, I’ll reserve comment for that moment in time.”

If the Sooners are able to bring back Stutsman in addition to Bowman, OU would have the makings of a solid defense in 2024.
