Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, an elite 4-star defensive lineman from Conroe, TX, committed to Georgia on Thursday night.

Hailing from Oak Ridge High School (TX), Jonah-Ajonye is the No. 2 defensive lineman and the No. 21 player in the 2024 class according to ESPN and the No. 38 player in the nation per On3. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, Jonah-Ajonye has offers from over 30 schools around the nation.

The talented trench player cut his list to four earlier this week, however, including OU, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Oregon in his final four.

Jonah-Ajonye’s commitment comes as no surprise, with On3, Rivals and 247Sports all predicting the 4-star lineman to end up in Athens. The Oak Ridge standout took his final official visit to Georgia on June 23, giving Kirby Smart and company the last chance to land the elite prospect.

Prior to his trip to the Peach State, Jonah-Ajonye was in Norman for the ChampU BBQ. While all reports indicate that the defensive lineman has a great relationship with the Sooners, it is hard to top the recent track record of on field success that Georgia has achieved, especially with such a new staff.

With his size, power and physicality, Jonah-Ajonye will likely fit in well with a defensive line group that has consistently sent players to the NFL.

While loosing out of Jonah-Ajonye stings for Oklahoma’s 2024 recruiting class, they will still have the chance to close on highly touted trench players like Nigel Smith II, Dominick McKinley, David Stone and Williams Nwaneri. If Brent Venables and company are able to land a commitment from one of the aforementioned recruits, OU will still have a chance to make the upcoming recruiting cycle historic amongst the defensive line unit.

With Wyatt Gilmore already on board in the Sooners’ 2024 class, adding a few more talented prospects would prepare Oklahoma for their transition into the SEC.
