Colorado transfer punter Ashton Logan committed to Oklahoma on Friday, filling a gap in the Sooners roster left by the departure of veteran punter Michael Turk this offseason.

Logan announced his decision on Twitter.

Logan is listed at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds on his Hudl profile.

Last season at Colorado, Logan recorded 17 punts in three games, averaging 41 yards per boot. In Turk's final year at OU, the sixth-year senior punted 63 times with a 46.8 yard average.

Turk went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, but was signed by the Miami Dolphins as an Undrafted Free Agent. If Logan can perform on the same level as Turk, who was also a transfer (Arizona State), the Sooners' should be competitive on special teams once again in 2023.

Logan attended Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, CA, before spending his freshman year in Boulder. The former Buffalo entered the transfer portal in October 2022, garnering interest from programs around the country.

According to Chris Sailer Kicking, Logan was the No. 9 punter in the 2021 recruiting class, earning a 5-star rating from the specialist-centered website. 247Sports ranked the Californian No. 13 in the nation among his position group, reporting multiple Division I scholarship offers for the talented special teams player.

At Oklahoma, Logan will compete against redshirt senior Luke Elzinga and redshirt freshman Brady Braun for the starting spot. Also, former Arizona State transfer Josh Plaster is in the mix after being placed on scholarship during the spring semester.

Elzinga, a transfer from Central Michigan, earned All-Mac honors the last three seasons and appears poised to take the reigns for the Sooners in 2023.

Braun, however, was the No. 4 punter in the 2022 recruiting class according to Kohl's Kicking and will likely put up a strong battle for the job. With all three punters on the OU roster being so well-accomplished, the Sooners will have a great group of specialists to choose from prior to the 2023-24 season.

Logan's commitment may not be flashy, but it adds depth to what is an unproven position on Oklahoma's depth chart.
