GRAPEVINE, TX — Oklahoma quarterback commit Kevin Sperry showed Friday why he is such a highly touted recruit.

At the Texas 7-on-7 State Qualifying Tournament, the rising junior at Rock Hill (TX) displayed great touch and arm strength as well as an impressive ability to throw off-platform and on the run despite his Blue Hawks squad losing all three games in pool play.

Sperry's best performance came against Denison, when the star QB threw three touchdown passes, including a deep shot almost 50 yards downfield. The 4-star signal-caller lofted the ball high in the air, hitting his receiver perfectly in stride as he was streaking into the end zone.

Sperry threw a similar long ball against Byron Nelson in Rock Hill's previous contest, giving his target enough room to run underneath the high-arcing pass before diving out of bounds.

The rising junior also threw multiple impressive passes while on the run, with Rock Hill repeatedly running a sprint-out play on which Sperry connect on at least two touchdown passes Friday morning. Sperry said afterwards that his ability to hit off-balance throws with such great accuracy correlates well to the Sooners' offense, which runs similar plays.

On one play, Sperry rolled out to his left, squaring his chest to the line of scrimmage before unloading a strike to Rock Hill 2024 linebacker Jonah Bowman while on the move. Bowman caught the perfect pass and secured a touchdown for the Blue Hawks.

Sperry went toe-to-toe with multiple impressive defenders, but was still able to find holes in the defense and move the ball. Against Byron Nelson, Sperry squared off against 2024 linebacker and California commit Eze Osondu as well as 2025 DB Leo Almanza Jr., who received an offer from Arkansas State last month and went on a visit to Oklahoma State last fall.

Talented 2024 defensive back Jonathan Kabeya also helped Osondu and Almanza patrol the secondary, serving as a formidable opponent for Sperry. The Bobcats star corner holds eight offers, including Texas Tech, BYU, Indiana and Arizona State, among others.

When playing Denison, Sperry was met by fellow C4 teammate and Sooners' defensive back offer Kenyan Kelly. At one point, Kelly even told Sperry, "You know better than that," when the Rock Hill QB considered making a throw in his direction.

Despite the high level of competition, Sperry set himself apart from the crowd with his play on the field. After the day was over, Sperry's coach praised his quarterback's leadership and character off the field, a trait that seems to be common amongst Brent Venables' recruiting targets.

Sperry said he will return to Norman for the final two sessions of the Brent Venables Elite Camp on June 13 and 15. Oklahoma's future signal-caller and his younger brother, Rozzi, have been at all three of the previous camp dates.
