Platt, a 2024 prospect, will choose between Oregon and Oklahoma on Sept. 4, marking yet another battle between the Ducks and the Sooners for a talented 2024 defensive recruit. OU beat out Dan Lanning for 4-star defensive lineman Wyatt Gilmore in June after the Oregon landed Durant, OK, standout Xadavien Sims over Brent Venables and company.
Listed at 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds, Platt is an outstanding athlete, winning the state championship in shot put and coming in second place in javelin as a junior. Additionally, Platt ran an 11.09 in the 100 meter dash and has impressive discus and hammer throw marks as well.
The rising senior performed so well in track and field this season that he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Washington in 2023.
He is one of the top 10 linebackers and top 75 players in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. Platt is also the No. 1 player in Washington per 247Sports and has reportedly run a 4.64 in the 40 yard dash, a good time for a player of his size and stature.
If Platt were to commit to the Sooners, he would be OU's second linebacker commitment in the upcoming recruiting cycle, joining James Nesta of Cornelius, NC.
On April 18, OU was included in Platt's top 8 along with Oregon, UCLA, Texas A&M, USC, Notre Dame, Michigan and Miami. Currently, the Ducks are the overwhelming favorite to land the 4-star prospect according to predictions from On3.
Platt did visit Norman on June 9, however, meaning the Oklahoma coaching staff could still make a run at the talented linebacker. With well over a month between now and his commitment date, Venables and company will have plenty of chances to give Platt their final recruiting pitches.
