Sunday Offering: Oklahoma Gets Three Commits, in the Mix for Three More

In this story:
Until two weeks ago, Oklahoma only had six commits in the 2024 class.
Since then, Brent Venables and company have nearly doubled this total, adding three commits in the past week to bring the Sooners to 11 commits in the upcoming cycle. Additionally, three more prospects announced their list of final schools and commitment dates with Oklahoma making the cut.
Commitments
On Tuesday, DeMarco Murray earned a commitment from local running back Xavier Robinson. The 3-star tailback from Carl Albert is listed at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, running for 2,594 yards and 39 touchdowns as a junior last season.
Robinson chose the Sooners over Iowa State, Notre Dame and Oklahoma State, among others. After his commitment, the Titans star said that he was hoping to try and get Westmoore safety Mykel Patterson-McDonald and IMG Academy defensive lineman David Stone on board in OU's 2024 class.
"David Stone is the main key, cause once you get David Stone, that can bring a lot of other guys that he has relationships with," Robinson told reporters after his commitment. "I also want to bring Mykel (Patterson-McDonald) in. He's a great guy. He's very mature, we always played against each other growing up and I would love to be on a team with him."
The next day, Rogers (MN) defensive lineman Wyatt Gilmore committed to Oklahoma, choosing the Sooners over Minnesota, Kansas State, Oregon and Miami. Gilmore, a 4-star recruit, was in Norman for the ChampU BBQ and could be the first of a historically talented defensive line class at OU.

On Friday, the Sooners' picked up their fourth wide receiver in the 2024 class when Ivan Carreon announced his pledge to Oklahoma. The 6-foot-6 pass catcher from Odessa, TX, was previously committed to Texas Tech, but announced his decommitment on Thursday.
Carreon joins KJ Daniels, Zion Kearney and Dozie Ezukanma in Emmett Jones' 2024 wideout group.
Dates
Also in the past week, Patterson-McDonald and Lindale (TX) offensive lineman Casey Poe announced their commitment dates and the schools that remain in contention for the two 4-star prospects.
Patterson-McDonald announced his top four schools on Wednesday evening, with Houston, Missouri, UNLV and OU making the cut.

The 5-foot-11 safety also mentioned that he would announce his commitment on July 31.
While Patterson-McDonald is fresh off of a visit to UNLV, the OU legacy was in Norman for the ChampU BBQ and has told AllSooners that he has a great relationship with the Oklahoma coaching staff.
"They're always honest with me, always straightforward with me. They check up on me, see how I'm doing. See if I want to come by," Patterson-McDonald said. "I just love the coaches there, love the program."
While the Sooners' are seemingly in a good spot with the local star, Bill Bedenbaugh and company appear to have more work to do in order to land a commitment from Poe.
The nation's No. 1 interior offensive lineman according to On3, Poe included OU in his top seven on Saturday alongside Texas Tech, Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and LSU.

Despite visiting Norman for the ChampU BBQ, the Lindale standout is reportedly favoring Alabama and plans to commit on July 12.
Another visitor from the barbecue, 5-star athlete Terry Bussey, announced his top five on Friday. Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M and LSU remain in the mix for the nation's No. 15 overall player according to 247Sports.

Bussey can play wideout or defensive back at a high level and would instantly become the Sooners' highest rated recruit in the 2024 class if he were to choose OU. The 5-star from Timpson (TX) seems to favor the Aggies based on his Twitter posts and predictions from Rivals and On3.
