Oklahoma Adds Versatile Shooting Guard

University of Oklahoma head men's basketball coach Porter Moser announced Wednesday the addition of graduate transfer Maks Klanjscek to the 2023-24 roster.
Klanjscek, a 6-foot-5 guard, spent last season at Houston Christian (formerly Houston Baptist), starting all 32 contests during the 2022-23 slate. He averaged 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per outing.
The Ljubljana, Slovenia, product, tallied 10-plus points in 22 games and averaged 23.1 points per outing over his final 10 contests. Klanjscek shot 39.9 percent (155-388) from the field, 35.2 percent (69-196) from three and 79.4 percent (100-126) from the free throw line.
"Excited to add Maks to our program," said Moser. "He is an experienced guard who is a high-level shooter and ball hander. I look forward to him joining us in the fall."
Prior to his time in Houston, he spent the 2021-22 season at Maine, appearing in 28 games and making 21 starts. Klanjscek averaged 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He shot 45.0 percent (107-238) from the field, 34.6 percent (37-107) from three and 80.8 percent (21-26) from the line.
Klanjscek competed for Salt Lake Community College during the 2020-21 slate and spent his freshman campaign at Kansas City in 2019-20. At KC, he appeared in 25 games and shot 40.6 percent (26-64) from the field and 39.6 percent (19-48) from deep.
Before his collegiate career, Klanjscek was a member of the Slovenian National U-14, U-16 and U-18 teams, competing in the 2017 FIBAU18 European Championship. He ended his prep campaign at Hoosac School, helping the Owls reach the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council AAA Playoffs.

Among the dozens of awards he has won, John most cherishes his national "Beat Writer of the Year" from the Associated Press Sports Editors, Oklahoma's "Best Sports Column" from the Society of Professional Journalists, and Two "Excellence in Sports Medicine Reporting" Awards from the National Athletic Trainers Association. John holds a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from East Central University in Ada, OK. Born and raised in North Pole, Alaska, John played football and wrote for the school paper at Ada High School in Ada, OK. He enjoys books, movies and travel, and lives in Broken Arrow, OK, with his wife and two kids.
