Oklahoma Basketball Announces Students-Only Game at McCasland Fieldhouse

In this story:
For years, Oklahoma's basketball program has had trouble filling its stadium.
This year, however, the team has a new way of getting fans in the stands.
On Monday afternoon, OU head basketball coach Porter Moser announced that the Sooners will host a students-only contest on Nov. 30 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Specifically, Oklahoma has struggled to get a large number of students through the Lloyd Noble Center doors since the team's impressive 2015-16 season that saw Buddy Hield lead OU to a 29-8 record and a Final Four berth.
Since then, administration has tried multiple different ways to get students involved, including bringing back the beloved mascot "Top Daug". This year, the Sooners are trying a different approach.
The team's Nov. 30 matchup against Pine Bluff was already set to take place in McCasland Field House, where Oklahoma's basketball team played until 1975. OU's last basketball game at McCasland was on New Year's Eve in 2012, marking over a decade since the facility has been used for a college basketball game.
In a video posted on social media by the Sooners' basketball team, Moser said that he had been working on hosting a students-only matchup for two years and that he was finally able to make it happen this season.
Moser encouraged students to experience the unique atmosphere, saying he hopes fans will see the impact they are able to make when the team is playing in Norman.
"Come out. Only students to celebrate the impact that you guys have and the atmosphere that you create at our games," Moser said in the video. "So I look forward to seeing you there. McCasland game, November 30th."
If Moser's team is able to start the year off on a high note, there is a much better chance that McCasland Field House has a good turnout when the Sooners take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Coming off of a 15-17 season last year, Oklahoma will look to bounce back in 2023-24 after largely retooling the roster over the offseason.
OU kicks off regular season play on Monday, Nov. 6 when the team takes on Central Michigan in Norman.
