OU Basketball: Oklahoma Lands at No. 21 in Final AP Poll of 2023-24 Season

After a solid third season under Jennie Baranczyk, the Sooners end the year at No. 21 in the AP Poll.

On Monday, April 8, the final AP Poll of the 2023-24 women's college basketball season was released, with Oklahoma checking in at No. 21.

The Sooners' dropped their final game of the season to Indiana in the Round of 32 after narrowly beating No. 12-seed Florida Gulf Coast in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. OU went into March Madness at No. 18 in the previous Top 25 rankings.

Despite not making it out of the first weekend for the third consecutive season, Baranczyk's squad still had a good season in the head coach's third year at the helm. Oklahoma won the regular season Big 12 title, sweeping the Texas Longhorns in the process.

Senior forward Skylar Vann earned Co-Big 12 Player of the Year Honors and was also named to the Honorable Mention All-American team along with junior guard Payton Verhulst. Baranczyk's efforts landed her among the National Coach of the Year award finalists.

The Sooners finished the season with a 23-10 record, going 15-3 in conference play. After a 6-5 start to the year that included losses to Princeton, Tennessee, UNLV, North Carolina and Southern, OU won 15 of its next 17 games to vault itself into first place in the Big 12.

After falling to Iowa State in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament, Baranczyk's team earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Falling behind against FGCU in the Round of 64, Vann and company pulled off an impressive comeback victory to give Oklahoma a victory in March Madness for the third consecutive season.

Texas finished the season at No. 7 in the final AP Top 25 while Baylor checked in at No. 13, Kansas State at No. 19, West Virginia at No. 24 and Iowa State rounding out the Big 12's ranked teams at No. 25.
