The Arkansas Razorbacks are expected to bring on former OU and Utah assistant DJ Gasso as the team's hitting coach, D1Softball reported on Monday.

Gasso is the son of Sooners' head coach Patty Gasso, a seven-time national champion, and the brother of Oklahoma assistant coach JT Gasso

DJ will join the Razorbacks as the team's hitting coach after spending three seasons in the same position on the Utes' staff. During his time in Utah, the team vastly improved their offensive statistics and saw four hitters earn All-Conference status in 2022.

In Gasso's first year with the Utes, the squad reached their highest home run total since 2012, knocking 46 pitches out of the park.

Gasso was part of a Utes staff that was named Coaching Staff of the Year by D1Softball after the team found its way to the WCWS this summer, averaging over six runs per game for the season.

Prior to his time in Utah, Gasso spent two years as an assistant coach with the Sooners, helping lead OU to the WCWS Final in 2019 and a top four ranking in 2020. Gasso also earned his master's degree in intercollege athletic communications from Oklahoma.

Before joining his mother on the Sooners' staff, Gasso played baseball at Hutchinson Community College, Bradley University and University of Central Oklahoma. In his time at Bradley, Gasso was a four-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll selection.

Gasso will join a Razorbacks squad that went 40-19 in 2023, making the NCAA Regional before being eliminated by Oregon. Arkansas is at a much different starting point than Utah was when Gasso arrived, as the team hit 69 homers last season, compared to 47 from the Utes in 2023.

With the Sooners' transitioning into the SEC in 2024, it is likely that Patty and DJ Gasso will meet each other on the diamond sometime in the near future.
