Oklahoma SS Grace Lyons Lands Big 12 Honor

Oklahoma shortstop Grace Lyons was named Big 12 Player of the Week after her performance at Iowa State last weekend.
Lyons, a senior from Peoria, AZ, and a first-team All-America last season, led the Sooners to three wins over Iowa State while hitting .625 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs.

The 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year nominee totaled 11 bases and four runs scored during the weekend while leading the league in on-base (.667) and slugging percentage (1.375).
Lyons helped the Sooners improve to 30-1 on the year with 18 run-rule victories while outscoring opponents 278-27. This is the two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year’s second weekly award.
Oklahoma State’s Lexi Kilfoyl was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after posting a 0.00 ERA in three appearances for the Cowgirls last week.

John has also spoken on Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City in a successful effort to put more certified athletic trainers in Oklahoma public high schools. Among the dozens of awards he has won, John most cherishes his national "Beat Writer of the Year" from the Associated Press Sports Editors, Oklahoma's "Best Sports Column" from the Society of Professional Journalists, and Two "Excellence in Sports Medicine Reporting" Awards from the National Athletic Trainers Association. John holds a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from East Central University in Ada, OK. Born and raised in North Pole, Alaska, John played football and wrote for the school paper at Ada High School in Ada, OK. He enjoys books, movies and travel, and lives in Broken Arrow, OK, with his wife and two kids.
