As expected, Jordy Bahl is headed back home. After starring at Oklahoma for the last two seasons, the do-it-all pitcher announced her intentions to transfer to Nebraska and play for the Cornhuskers.

Bahl cited her desire to be closer to home when entering the transfer portal, and the move back to Nebraska backs it up. She was a superstar at Papillion-La Vista High School, where she was a two-time Nebraska Softball Player of the Year winner, the Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year as a senior and ranked the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2021 recruiting class.

After signing with the Sooners, Bahl was an impact player immediately. She was a First-Team All-American in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023, leading Oklahoma to two straight national championships. Over the course of her career, she registered a 1.00 ERA, 397 strikeouts and a .153 opponent batting average across 288.2 innings pitched. With Bahl on the mound, Oklahoma netted a record of 44-2.

Bahl was named the Freshman of the Year from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Softball America. Before signing with Patty Gasso and the Sooners, Bahl was originally committed to the Huskers. Now, she’s headed back to Lincoln.

"The entire Nebraska softball team is thrilled to have Jordy join the Red Team,” said Nebraska head coach Rhonda Revelle in a press release. “Jordy is an amazing young woman, teammate and athlete who we know is an incredible addition to our team both on and off the field.

"Having known Jordy for several years, we have not been surprised by her accomplishments as she has always been the epitome of a driven, determined and laser-focused competitor. Jordy is a winner on the inside and out, and she uplifts and inspires all who are around her. This is a wonderful day for Husker Nation to welcome back our homegrown Husker Jordy Bahl."

The Sooners will certainly miss Bahl, who has been a key figure of Oklahoma’s softball team over the last two seasons. The star pitcher was one of the biggest reasons why Oklahoma was able to win two straight championships.

“Jordy shared with our staff on Friday that she has been feeling a strong need to be closer to home for quite some time and that she planned to enter the transfer portal,” Gasso said in a statement after Bahl’s announcement. “It was a very candid and emotional conversation in which we both communicated our love and appreciation for each other.

“We are grateful for her two years with our program and for everything she accomplished. She obviously was a huge part of our on-field success, but what I’ll always appreciate most about Jordy is her approach and dedication to the game, as she’s the ultimate competitor. We’re understanding of her situation and certainly want her to be the happiest she can be. We are supportive of her, and she will always be part of the OU softball family.”
