OU Softball: Oklahoma Blanks Army Behind Dominant Pitching Display

Oklahoma’s offense kept rolling at the Getterman Classic on Saturday night.
Tiare Jennings launched her first home run of the season, and Nicole May shined again as the Sooners beat Army 9-0 in five innings at Getterman Stadium in Waco.
May faced 13 batters in four innings of work, striking out 10 while giving up no hits and just one walk.
The win over Army (2-5) was Oklahoma’s fifth run rule win of the season, and the third run rule of the weekend to move the top-ranked Sooners to 8-0 on the year.

Jayda Coleman set the tone with a leadoff double, and then made Army pay on the bases.
After advancing to third base, Coleman saw an opening to take home when Army catcher Maddie Wilkes tried to catch OU’s Grace Lyons stealing second.
A run already in hand, Alyssa Brito drove Lyons home with a double off the left field wall, and then Cydney Sanders’ deep fly to right field gave true freshman Jocelyn Erickson time to tag up and slide into home to give OU a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, Jennings finally opened up her 2023 home run account.
The star second baseman smashed a no-doubter over the wall in left field, bringing Rylie Boone home and extending the advantage to 5-0.

Jennings has still been productive in 2023, and her steady play was finally rewarded with a ball over the fence.
Patty Gasso’s stellar freshman, Jocelyn Erickson, then continued her dream Saturday in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Erickson was a perfect 5-for-5 with eight RBIs in OU’s first outing of the day against Stephen F. Austin, and she tacked on another trio of RBIs with a three-run blast to right field.

Sanders pushed the lead to 9-0 by driving in Brito with a two-out single to close out the scoring in the fourth inning.
Brito finished the contest hitting 2-for-3, and Boone was a perfect 2-for-2 to cap off the night.
Jordy Bahl stepped into the circle in relief of May to close out the win in the fifth inning, keeping OU’s combined no-hitter intact.
