Oklahoma opened up the Getterman Classic with a win on Friday, but it took a couple of innings for the OU offense to get rolling.

Longwood, who upset No. 6 Florida State last weekend, frustrated the top-ranked Sooners in the first two innings.

Finally, the dam broke in the third inning as Alyssa Brito, Sophia Nugent and Jocelyn Erickson combined for a five-run inning to power OU to a 10-0 win after five innings in Waco.

Jayda Coleman started the game strong for Oklahoma (6-0), drawing a leadoff walk and stealing second and third base.

Second baseman Tiare Jennings drove Coleman in with a hard-hit sacrifice fly to right field, but OU couldn’t generate any more offense in the first inning.

A leadoff walk again set the Sooners up in good position in the second inning, as Cydney Sanders got aboard.

Brito then rocketed a triple that looped over the glove of Longwood (1-4) right fielder Kayley Devivi, doubling the lead.

The Sooners then drew four more walks, culminating in Jennings’ walk that brought in another run, but the lead stayed at 3-0 after Haley Lee popped up into foul territory just beyond first base.

With run support in tow, OU pitcher Jordy Bahl looked herself again in the circle.

The 2022 NFCA Freshman of the Year struck out nine Longwood batters while only issuing one walk and allowing a pair of hits, bouncing back from her up-and-down pitching display against No. 12-ranked Washington Huskies at the Mark Campbell Invitational.

Finally, Oklahoma’s offense exploded in the third inning.

Grace Lyons and Sanders drew back-to-back walks, bringing Brito to the plate.

She produced another massive extra-base hit, this time doubling off the left field wall to plate Lyons and put the Sooners up 4-0.

Catcher Sophia Nugent then brought Sanders and Brito home with a three-run blast, extending the lead to 7-0 on her second career home run.

True freshman Jocelyn Erickson inched the game toward run rule territory in the next at-bat, smashing her second home run of the season to push the advantage to 8-0.

Rylie Boone drew a walk to try and keep the rally rolling, but the Sooners were unable to drive home their energetic left fielder.

But Brito wasn’t done.

She returned to torment Longwood in the bottom of the fourth inning, turning on the first pitch she saw and rocketing it over the fence in center field.

The two-run shot brought in Lyons, putting Oklahoma up 10-0.

True freshman pitcher Kierston Deal entered the game in the top of the fifth inning to relieve Bahl and close out the victory.

Oklahoma will return to action to play a pair of games on Saturday.

Up first, OU will square off against Stephen F. Austin at 12:30 p.m., and then the Sooners will return to take on Army at 5:30 p.m.

Both games will be streamed for free on SoonerSports.TV.
