Despite a quiet week on the recruiting trail for the Sooners, Brent Venables and company still made the cut for a talented safety in the Natural State.

With the University of Oklahoma on Spring Break, most of the Sooners' football team has been off campus over the past week.

Some of OU's players spent the week in Brazil or Hawaii as part of the SOUL Mission, while part of the team traveled back to their hometowns to visit family members.

As players and coaches were mostly off-campus taking advantage of the break, Oklahoma had a light week on the recruiting trail. Still, the Sooners found themselves in the mix for a talented 2025 defensive back and learned the commitment date of another coveted prospect.

On Wednesday, 4-star safety Marcus Wimberly announced his Top 7 schools. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound defensive back from Bauxite, AR, included Oklahoma, Oregon, Memphis, Michigan, Arkansas, Mississippi and Wisconsin on his list.

A good athlete with solid strength and speed, Wimberly would be a good fit with OU safeties coach Brandon Hall. The Miners' standout is rated the No. 9 safety prospect in the 2025 cycle and would be the first defensive back pledge in the Sooners' upcoming recruiting class.

Wimberly visited Norman in early February and received a few predictions from various recruiting sites to land at Oklahoma. With the defending national champion Wolverines and the home-state Razorbacks also in contention for the 4-star prospect, however, the Sooners will have to battle for Wimberly's pledge.

On Tuesday, 4-star running back Tory Blaylock revealed that he will announce his commitment on March 29.

Blaylock announced his Top 6 schools last week, with Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State and Tennessee making the cut.

Hailing from the Houston area, Blaylock is the son of former NFL running back Derrick Blaylock. The Atascocita (TX) star is rated the No. 219 overall player and No. 17 running back in the 2025 recruiting class.

Blaylock also has two older brothers playing at the Division I level, Wisconsin safety Travian Blaylock and Lindenwood defensive back Taylen Blaylock.

On Friday, the standout junior ran a 10.56 in the 100-meter dash, beating out LSU commit and former OU target Caden Durham. He also ran on Atascocita's 4x100 team that shattered the national record with a 38.92.

With elite speed, Blaylock would be a big addition to what is already a star-studded group of skill position players in Oklahoma's 2025 recruiting class.

Blaylock would also continue a great recruiting run for Sooners' running back coach DeMarco Murray, who landed the nation's No. 1 tailback in the 2024 cycle (Taylor Tatum) and one of the top three halfbacks in the 2026 class (Jonathan Hatton).

Earlier this week, Murray reportedly received a new, three-year contract to remain in Norman after Ohio State apparently tried to hire the former NFL Offensive Player of the Year and OU record holder.
